Even though he has been out of touch with sports since his retirement in 2022, Gronkowski succeeded in casting a spell among his fans, including the famous TB12. It was not a typical throw, but the 34-year-old wanted to bring to the plate something signature of his style that thrilled his long-time mate.

Gronkowski’s fierce performance left Brady amused

Gronkowski graced the gridiron with his custom Red Sox jersey, flaunting the No. 87 on the back. The number is special since he wore it during his stints at the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, with his comeback, Gronkowski lifted his leg like a pitcher and decided to spike it into the pitcher’s mound instead. This instantly caught Brady’s attention, and he chose to commend his fellow teammate, saying, “Love seeing that Gronk Spike!!!!”

In front of the roaring crowd at Fenway Park, Boston, he threw his fist up with his thrilling performance against the Cleveland Guardians. The 6-foot-6 former tight end chose to lean back and appeared to have gathered enough energy to propel the ball to the catcher. However, instead, he spiked it into the ground just in front of himself. During his career, the player has been known to have spiked footballs while he scored touchdowns. Having an illustrious career himself, Brady connected with Gronkowski for 105 touchdowns.

Brady-Gronkowski being the dynamic duo of their time

Brady and Gronkowski were the legendary New England and Tampa Bay duo. It was their joint efforts that brought their franchises the Heisman Trophy. Together, they have won four championships, making the second-highest number among a duo in NFL history. However, the camaraderie broke when Gronkowski decided to retire, and Brady had to play the final season with the Patriots without his reliable buddy.

To this, the tight-end once said, “And he’s been in the game before me and he’s been in the game after me. … Because we just know how deep of a friendship and relationship we have from the game of football.” However, the TB12 ensured their partnership would be brought back into the gridiron. After a brief retirement in 2019, Gronkowski got a call from Brady, who requested that the tight end give himself a second shot and join the Buccaneers.

In Tampa Bay, Brady ensured Gronkowski a quick pass to haul in a 55th catch of the season by requesting the coaches to keep the tight end instead of bringing on backup Blaine Gabbert. In this way, Gronkowski’s bonus was secured. Interestingly, the backing-up game still continues.
