Albeit the conclusion of the Spring games in a superb manner, Colorado is buzzing with events. Thanks to Deion Sanders, it always is, sometimes for good and sometimes for bad. Xavier Smith’s confession was surely the ‘bad’ part for Deion Sanders and Co. as his comments were quick to garner widespread attention.

Per the Athletic’s report, Deion Sanders ‘advised’ Smith to enter the transfer portal without giving him a chance to prove his abilities. The report, paired with Smith’s emotion-evoking words, enraged the fans. “I was actually getting mad, like tears coming out of my eyes. Because bro, you never even tried to get to know me,” Smith said. To this came his son, Shedeur Sanders’ attempt at defending his father and the situation only worsened. And the 104th overall pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars from the 2003 NFL draft believes it will only raise more obstacles in establishing Colorado in the light that Deion Sanders wants.

“Crazy how people hate to hear anything negative about Colorado + Deion Sanders,” George Wrighster tweeted. Addressing the issue with Coach Prime and CU, Wrighster also tweeted, “I hope he succeeds but everything isn’t gonna be a puff piece. Nothing is either all good or all bad. Even when people have the best intentions or do a lot of things right sometimes they miss the mark.”

Will they miss the mark, though? From the players’ point of view, Sanders surely did. From his point of view, however, the narrative looks different. While Deion Sanders wishes nothing but the best for all the players for their future, he also thinks of them as the ones who were “not fit” for the Buffs’ locker room.

The juxtaposition is confusing the fans utterly. With this, answering if the accusations stand true and working on the sky-high expectations for the upcoming season to shut the detractors simultaneously would surely present a tacky situation for Deion Sanders. However, will it prove to be an obstacle for Deion Sanders to recruit more players?

Deion Sanders and Co.’s recruits at Colorado

When asked if the ‘transfer portal king’ managed to secure any more players at the Spring transfer portal, Prime had a huge truth bomb to drop during his press conference. “I think it’s about five more that’s here right now that’s committed. I don’t know if we released it yet, but you’ll hear about it really soon,” Sanders said.

CU already has 3 official transfer portal players, Ohio State Buckeyes’ Dallan Hayden and Rayyan Buell, and Peyton Kirkland. To this, another 5 recruits are expected to join. Deion Sanders and Co. already reaped sweet fruits in the transfer portal after the conclusion of the regular season. The real question is: How many of these players would succumb to the fate that Xavier Smith also succumbed to?
