The NFL Sunday turned out to be a nightmare for the Dallas Cowboys in all aspects. Not only did they lose to the Tom Brady-led side with a huge margin, but also lost star quarterback Dak Prescott for several weeks from now. The passer was taken to the locker room after getting his thumb injured, and per the reports, he will have to undergo surgery.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled out a crazy game defeating the Cowboys 19-3 and maintaining their undisputed record of no loss against the Jerry Jones-led franchise. In fact, the record just got updated to 7-0 for Tom Brady against the Cowboys.

However, the worst of all happened in the fourth quarter. Dak Prescott fractured his right thumb while making a screen pass to the Running Back Ezekiel Elliott. Buccaneers outside linebacker Shaq Barrett intercepted the move and swatted his thumb, breaking it instantly.

Although it seemed like a dislocation for the passer who consulted the medical team to yank it off; however, it turned out to be a clean fracture that may keep him away for weeks. After the game, Jerry Jones spoke to the reporter, admitting that Prescott’s right thumb got fractured right above the joint. He will undergo surgery on Monday and will take some time to return.

It is the same thumb he uses to grip the ball that has kept him out of the job. “Reminds me that this game, like life, can be pretty daunting,” Jerry Jones said about the situation, adding that it was “excruciating” for him. Once the news broke out, Prescott commented on his condition.

“I’m obviously going to miss some time, not be there for my team,” the QB said. “That’s what hurts more than anything, especially after the start that we just put out there. I wanted to be able to respond. And not necessarily having that opportunity for several weeks,” he added to his explanation.

Who will replace Dak Prescott in the meantime?

Ever since Dak Prescott joined the Jerry Jones Cowboys, he has been one of the consistent quarterbacks for the side. In the first six seasons, he never stayed out of a single game. But since 2020, he missed 12 games altogether and had surgeries the very same year.

Last season he missed one of the games due to a calf strain, and it was Cooper Rush, who covered him. He is currently a backup for Prescott, who took the charge of the offensive unit in the remaining 3:14 minutes before the final whistle of Sunday’s game.

He has enough experience and has spent nearly five seasons with the franchise. In 2021, he started the week 8 game against the Vikings. Not to mention, he won effortlessly, without any assistance from Prescott. All in all, it was a huge setback for the Cowboys. It will be interesting to see how they will recover from the current situation.
