The stage is set for Aaron Rodgers as he prepares for his first season as a player for the New York Jets. He has accomplished a lot with the Green Bay Packers in the last almost two decades. The Jets fans are excited to see their new quarterback who, they believe, has everything to bring the franchise out of the wilderness and into the NFL elite. But according to Shannon Sharpe, for the fans to celebrate Rodgers, one thing must absolutely happen.

Rodgers is moving away from the Packers after 18 years at Lambeau Field. He has one Super Bowl ring and four league MVP awards in that period in Wisconsin. Now that he is in New York, the expectations are riding high, with expectations of bringing along the same mojo. And Sharpe has given one scenario that will cement the legacy of the veteran QB.

Shannon Sharpe expects nothing less than the Super Bowl from the New Jets QB Aaron Rodgers. According to the Pro Football Hall of Famer, that is exactly why the Jets have brought him in after paying a huge compensation. A three-time winner himself, Sharpe knows the importance of the Vince Lombardi trophy for a franchise that hasn’t won it since Super Bowl III.

“Everybody says the right things, I am excited to be here, you are a passionate fan base. I love the organization, great players blah blah blah. I get all that. But at the end of the day, they brought you in here to do a job and for me it’s the Super Bowl bus. I don’t care if he’s there one year, I don’t care if he’s there two years, I don’t care if he’s there 10 years. When you pay the compensation that they’re paying, and you give up the compensation that they gave up to get it, yeah that’s what it’s about,” Sharpe said on his show ‘Undisputed’.

Rodgers has a Super Bowl win under his belt but that came all the way back in 2011. And for Sharpe, the compensation that the Jets paid to get him to make a playoff appearance is not good enough.

The deal that made it all possible

Aaron Rodgers cost the Jets quite a lot. They had identified him as their prime target very early and worked tirelessly for months to make it happen. They will be footing the four-time NFL MVP’s huge contract for the next couple of years.  The franchise also paid the Packers with a first-round draft swap and a second-round pick this year. Next year, the Packers get a conditional pick in the draft to work with. That is huge for a franchise that might go for a rebuild again after a couple of seasons.
