The Jackson State Tigers and the Alabama State Hornets faced each other on October 9. Jackson State appeared as the winner of the game by a score of 26-12. Deion Sanders, the head coach of JSU and former NFL athlete, wanted to share the win with the coach of the Hornets, Eddie Robinson Jr. However, it looked like Robinson shoved the former Dallas Cowboys player in the midfield. After the confusing exchange, Robinson came out with an explanation and apology.

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders and Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. met at mid-field after the game. There was a handshake, and then Sanders tried to hug Robinson, but the Hornets coach appears to shove Sanders away. Sanders, surrounded by police escorts, seemed aggravated by the gesture.

Eddie Robinson Jr. chose not to embrace Coach Prime because of the reasons he stated in his “post-game presser.” For him, it is important to be in control. The head football coach of Alabama represents” the University, the president, the board of trustees, the AD, everybody.”

Even though emotions may rule the head coach or the athletes, they always have to follow the protocol and contain themselves. Also, Robinson felt disrespected at the hands of Sanders.

“At the end of the day, you always have to conduct yourself as the head coach, and I felt like I errored in that part,” Robinson explained. ‘When you do those things, you have to apologize for it. You have to let the kids know you are human. … We accept that responsibility.”
