“I Didn’t Want to Work Through Problems With My Family”: Aaron Rodgers Opens up About His Contemplations During Darkness Retreat

The NFL world has been waiting for a response from Aaron Rodgers since he came out of his ‘darkness retreat’. And they finally got it, when he appeared on the ‘ Aubrey Marcus Podcast’ to tell the world about his experience in the darkroom. In the podcast, Rodgers revealed that he contemplated many things, particularly his relationships in life.

Notably, Rodgers first talked about his ‘darkness retreat’ on the Pat McAfee show, where he talked about spending some lonely time for four days in a dark room in Oregon. The owner of the facility later confirmed that Rodgers has ended his stay. Since coming out of the facility, Rodgers opened up for the first time in the podcast.

While talking with YouTuber, Aubrey Marcus, Rodgers said, “I really wanted to contemplate some things with some relationships in my life, some family stuff, and then, obviously, career stuff, and just kind of let whatever was going to come in, come in. And it did, it definitely did.

It is worth noting that Rodgers had a bittersweet relationship with his parents and two brothers. According to an ESPN report in 2022, Rodgers has not spoken to his family members for several years. Earlier, his father publically called him out for changing after getting all the fame.

“I have been an enigma at times trying to keep my private life private and I didn’t want to work through problems with my family in the public sphere, as unfortunately they did at times… There was this mystery around me,” Rodgers further said in the podcast.

Last year, when Rodgers appeared on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast, he talked about his family at great length. “The most important thing for me is deep love and gratitude for them, and for the lessons I learned, and for the way I was raised, and hope for the future,” Rodgers said at that time. However, he was not sure about the future.

In the recent podcast, Rodgers also mentioned healing from a trauma he suffered during childhood; he did not disclose that.

Is Rodgers in a dilemma about playing football?

While talking about healing, Rodgers also mentioned that he visualized “what it would be like to retire and then imagining what it’d be like to continue to play.”

Rodgers also asked some serious questions to himself, about his footballing future. Meanwhile, many teams are just waiting for Rodgers to decide his future; the same goes for the Packers as well. As per reports, they have received some interest from the Jets, which could be Rodgers’ next team if he decides to play in the 2023 season.
