The Carolina Panthers lost to Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday and put another nail on their playoff coffin. Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield was the topic of debate after Carolina was held to 3 points by the Ravens at the M&T Bank Stadium.
Former Broncos tight end and Super Bowl champion Shannon Sharpe is not happy with Baker Mayfield’s quarterbacking this season. On a recent episode of ‘Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,’ Sharpe and co-host Skip Bayless entered into a heated discussion about the quality of the Heisman-winning QB from Oklahoma.

Skip believes in Mayfield. However, Shannon is convinced of his inability. “He’s a bum. He’s trash. You know it. And every time you bring him up, I’m gonna let the world know exactly what he is,” Shannon said. Skip Bayless was more inclined to talk about Baker Mayfield’s past performances and interrupted Shannon Sharpe several times while the former Broncos champion was making his point. However, Shannon wasn’t having any of it.
Baker Mayfield ranks last in the NFL this season in QBR ratings and when Shannon was making this important point, Skip said, “blah blah blah.” And that was the tipping point for Sharpe, who didn’t hold back. “You gonna let me talk?”
Baker Mayfield joined the Carolina Panthers before the 2022 season and has started 7 games for the Panthers this season. However, the Carolina Panthers have lost 6 of those 7 games with Mayfield. Baker has 6 touchdowns after Week 11 alongside 6 interceptions.

Skip Bayless thought that the windy Baltimore weather had a lot to do with the low-scoring game on Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens beat the Panthers 13-3 and Baker Mayfield had no touchdowns with 2 interceptions. Skip also thinks Baker’s receivers let him down on Sunday when WRs DJ Moore and Terrace Marshall Jr. dropped some vital catches within 10-15 yards of the Ravens’ end zone.
Shannon Sharpe was convinced that it was the quarterback at fault. Sharpe also asked Skip to not dwell in the past. “All you do [skip] is bring up those 11 games. All you do is go back and talk about when he was a rookie and won 7 games,” Shannon said. “He is dead last at QBR. He is 57.8% completion percentage.”

WATCH STORY: Baker Mayfield can earn his 35 million paycut back but it has the price of performance attached to it
Baker Mayfield was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and spent 4 years as their quarterback. Mayfield’s best season with the Browns was undoubtedly the 2020 season, where he recorded 26 touchdowns with only 8 interceptions and a 95.9 passer rating for the season. Baker Mayfield also has 3000+ passing seasons in every year of his NFL career, except the ongoing season. Up next, the 3-8 Panthers face another bottom-of-the-division team in the 3-7 Denver Broncos with Russell Wilson.
