Petra Kvitova WTA Finals 2019 – “The Generation is Just Changing”

The Czech Grand Slam champion, Petra Kvitova is the most experienced player amongst all the eight players in the WTA Finals 2019 line-up. She was the champion in the year 2011 and back then she competed against Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Li Na, Victoria Azarenka, Sam Stosur, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Vera Zvonareva.

This year, except Kvitova no one else has qualified for the year-end tournament who were present in 2011.

“Well, I just realized yesterday that I’m the oldest one of them. It feels pretty weird. But I am going to take it. We spoke with Simona, she’s just one year younger. We made some fun of it. But we’ll see. They are there for the first time, not Naomi. But those two are here for the first time. Not the last time probably. We are going to see them often, I think. The new faces are coming. It’s normal that the generation is just changing,” said Petra Kvitova.

In the year 2011, it was her first WTA Finals appearance and without any prior experience, she clinched the big title of tennis.

This year, Ashleigh Barty, Belinda Bencic and Bianca Andreescu have made it to the WTA Finals for the first time and also the young ladies achieved their personal best records on the Grand Slam courts and have won multiple titles.

“It seems a little bit better when you say it like this. Not sure if he experiences it’s better or no. Of course, I probably had everything that’s coming with the WTA Finals. I had to pull out once. I won it once. I have been in the final, whatever happened. It’s something every final is just different,” she added.

“Being just in the top eight, that makes the difference. But, I mean, I won it when it was like my first final without any experience. I’m not sure if it’s about that,” Kvitova concluded.

The sixth seed that WTA Finals 2019, Petra Kvitova is drawn to face the third seed, Naomi Osaka in the opening match of the Shenzhen tournament. Previously, the ladies met at the Australian Open 2019 finals where both of them played a see-sawing match against each other. The WTA Finals 2019 is set to get underway on October 27, 2019.
