Sergio Aguero, Messi’s former teammate for the Argentina national team, in a recent interview suggested that Messi’s decision to join Inter Miami over a jaw-dropping $1.6 billion offer from Saudi pro league club Al Hilal was influenced by both personal and family considerations.

The former Argentinian forward said, “Obviously, I think that between Miami and Arabia, I think he chose Miami for convenience. Miami is a nice place, there are lots of Latinos. I think he also saw it from the family side, which I think they can fit quite well in Miami, and in Arabia it can be more complicated, right?”

I think that Leo opted for him and his family to be well and to be able to play as relaxed as possible.” He added. The Argentine forward emphasized how players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo deserve the chance to savor the game they love with age catching up to them after years of competing at the highest level. The move to less demanding leagues allowed them to focus on enjoying the game and spending quality time with their families.

Messi’s rejection of the billion-dollar bid caused quite a stir. The proposal would have made him the highest-paid footballer in history. However, Messi clarified that Saudi Arabia was never a likely destination for him. He expressed his desire to return to Barcelona, but the club’s financial issues made it an impractical option.

Cristiano Ronaldo took a less conventional path when he left Juventus. In a surprising move, he joined Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. The decision raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about his motives.

The Argentinian forward also talked about Ronaldo‘s choice to join Saudi league after leaving Europe. He suggested that saying, “Cristiano maybe he’s a different player than Leo. He has made a decision to go to Arabia for other reasons that he will surely know about. In the end after all knowing Leo I know more or less which way he comes from. I don’t know Cristiano very well, and I can’t say his reasons either, right?”
