The USWNT were held to a frustrating draw at the last match of the group stages against Australia. The teams were involved in a goalless contest.

Team US has now managed to win only one of their 3 matches in the entire Olympic group stage tournament. A crushing loss to Sweden was followed by a thumping of New Zealand before the draw today.

Despite their below-expectation campaign, the team managed to take the second spot in the group and earned an automatic qualification to the quarter-finals of the tournament. But, fans weren’t very pleased with the team’s performance.

So wasn’t star player Alex Morgan. But Morgan expressed positivity that they will adapt better and have an improved showing at the quarter-final stages.

It was a great test for us today to see that the players can execute the game plan very, very well, so whatever we feel like we need to do to win the (next) game, we’re going to present it to them and then let them do their job,” USWNT coach Vlatko Andonovski was quoted saying.

It’s seeing how Vlatko wants us to set up against that (next) team. Tactically we had a little shift this game, we’re experienced enough & professional enough to be able to do so and face a team in a way that puts us on top and really plays to our strengths,” said Morgan after the match.

Can Alex Morgan and USWNT turn it around in the quarter-finals?

Morgan will look to make a better showing with the team in the knockout stages of the tournament. They entered the Olympics as the favorites to win the competition with a 44-match unbeaten streak under their belt. However, their performances so far have been nowhere near what was expected bar one match.
