In his brief boxing career, Jake Paul has been exposed to scathing criticism from fans, fighters, and almost every other angle possible. His biggest critics have, however, been boxers and athletes who claim that the former Disney star hasn’t exactly faced a legit boxer yet. And considering that Paul has faced mostly retired MMA athletes, some would agree that the argument does hold weight against the 26-year-old. Despite such criticism, ‘The Problem Child’ has found support from a surprising source in the form of a current UFC fighter.

42-year-old welterweight Matt Brown came in support of the younger Paul brother in a fresh episode of ‘The Fighter vs. The Writer‘. While praising him for facing legit fighters, Brown slammed Tommy Fury for not having experience against any true professional yet. The UFC veteran even went so far as to call Fury‘s former opponents ‘useless‘. Interestingly, former UFC champ Jon Jones too had recently disclosed that he was rooting for Jake Paul.

Brown didn’t shy away from pointing out the quality of opponents that Fury has faced so far. While doing so, he even pointed out a ridiculous record of 2- 100 that one of his former foes carried.

“First and foremost, we say he’s fought some boxers. He fought one moderately decent boxer. The guys that he boxed, one guy he fought, was like 2-100. His opponents were f****** horrible,” pointed out the MMA veteran.

Brown then went on to compare it to the type of rivals that Paul had faced in his brief career. Making comparisons with former UFC champ Tyron Woodley, the 42-year-old described how Woodley was a far superior athlete than any of Fury‘s opponents.

“Tyron Woodley is a world-class athlete. Now whether he was motivated or training hard or in his athletic prime when he fought Jake Paul, probably not, but he’s still a world-class athlete. I guarantee he’s a better athlete than any of those guys that Tommy Fury fought.” stated ‘The Immortal’.

He then also goes on to add that the former Disney star’s record was far more impressive than the British boxer’s. “I would argue that Jake Paul’s record is currently better than Tommy Fury’s, especially with the Anderson Silva win.”

The UFC veteran then continued his criticism of Fury’s boxing credentials by claiming that he has fought only ‘useless opponents.’ His exact words were: “The difference is Tommy Fury has fought taxi drivers. Just useless opponents.”

And to settle the debate and drive his point home.’The Immortal’ noted that Jake Paul has truly faced tougher challenges in his 6-0 boxing career, unlike Fury.

“Jake Paul has fought fighters. They’re not boxers, but they’re at least fighters. These guys, they have the heart of fighters. We know that. We’ve seen it.” explained Brown.

Ultimately, Matt Brown‘s assessment in this conversation does hold weight considering that boxers, during the initial part of their pro careers, face much easier challenges with so-called ‘tune-up fights’. But whether his criticism of Tommy Fury is true or not is something that fans can find out only after the two boxers step foot inside the ring and the bell goes off. Stay tuned.
