The UFC welterweight Colby Covington is very patriotic and a stern supporter of the American Military and Police forces. Therefore, an insult in any manner to the troops is a big no-no with Covington. 

Colby ‘The Chaos’ Covington lives up to his name as he calls out personalities and fighters out left, right and center for various issues. The second-best welterweight in the UFC is known for his comments and media notoriety surrounding the sport. 

One to make regular social appearances, the welterweight gave a guest appearance on the Nelk boys’ “Full send” podcast. Covington talked about what the American forces meant to him and why he had an issue with NBA legend LeBron James. 

When Covington was asked where he gets his “American inspiration” from, he said, “I mean, it’s just those are my inspiration. Those are the people I look up to. The people that you know are putting it all on the line every day to protect our freedoms. To keep law and order, you know?“

He continued, “Imagine if there was there wasn’t any cops around here. People would just be running around like it’s the wild, wild west shooting each other, you know? Like then, they’d just be criminals, and we wouldn’t be able to enjoy our lives and have this great podcast.” 

Talking about why he had an issue with LeBron James, he stated, “That’s why I laugh at LeBron James, you know? Like ‘Dude. You’re talking s***; You’re putting targets on police officers’ backs, but then you’re using police security every day.” 

This was after LeBron tweeted about the US police force amidst a controversial proceeding in the country.

Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman have been down the road of hate. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has practically cleared out the division and is reigning supreme. Apart from exciting fighters such as Khamzat Chimaev, who are likely to pose a danger to Usman, Covington has come closest to dethroning the Nigerian king.

Now that Covington dominantly won over Jorge Masvidal, a number of paths lie ahead for the American welterweight. Depending on the result, he could fight Gilbert Burns after his fight against Khamzat Chimaev. The UFC could also make an exciting matchup between him and the other top welterweights in the division.
