Canadian-American sports journalist Ariel Helwani is notorious for his controversial opinions and questions. This has made him famous and also earned him a suspension from the UFC once. His relationship with Dana White deteriorated when he leaked Brock Lesnar’s UFC return before the promotion could announce it.
Helwani hosts the show ‘The MMA Hour’, where he interviews MMA fighters. Recently he interviewed Dustin Poirier and they talked about his recent stunning fight against Michael ‘Iron’ Chandler at UFC 281. It was an intense first round, with both fighters exchanging blows. However, ‘El Diamante’ survived the initial onslaught of Chandler and won the fight by submission in the third round.
Dustin Poirier on the violence triangle
In the interview, ‘The Diamond’ talked about possible fights that are still ahead of him. He reflected on his career and his fights. Having already faced most of the top fighters in the promotion, the question remains: what lies ahead?
Helwani asked if there is anyone he has not fought yet that he would like to fight. Like Nate Diaz, for example, but a fighter who is available in the UFC. Only a few fighters remain unmatched by Poirier. As he has already faced superstars like Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and now Michael Chandler.

Ariel asked during the interview if ‘El Diamante’ would be interested in a showdown with Beneil ‘Benny’ Dariush. The Diamond’s answer was remarkable. Rumor has it that the UFC tried to arrange a fight between Poirier and Dariush in October, but it did not happen.
In his words, he was not excited about the matchup. He has faced superstars throughout his career and felt that currently facing ‘Benny’ would not be a wise move in his career. He respects Dariush, he considers him ‘a great fighter, very respectful guy and hard worker.’
