Conor McGregor never shied away from representing his country on every other occasion. The Dubliner never fails to flaunt the flag of the Republic of Ireland before and after his UFC matches. But a renowned journalist seemed to gloss over that fact. And she included him in a list of British fighters, such as Paddy Pimblett. It shocked even UFC legend Daniel Cormier to see her confuse the Irishman with being British. But this silly mistake brought forth an interesting conversation among the Irish.

Surprisingly, most of his countrymen do not want McGregor to represent Ireland. Rather, they were happy to let him go and be amongst the Britishers. Some fans were too harsh on the former dual-division champion and denounced him of his Irish nationality.

In a recent UFC debate ahead of UFC 282, MMA journalist Laura Sanko sat with UFC legend Daniel Cormier. She made a list of ‘top 5 active UK fighters’ and put ‘The Notorious’s’ name into the list along with famous British UFC fighters.

Eventually, the show host caught onto Sanko’s mistake as she included him in a list of UK fighters. He asked, “But is Ireland in the UK?”

To which Sanko awkwardly responded, “Yes, yes”

Daniel Cormier chimed in on her error and asked, “How’s Conor on the list? He’s not from the UK”

And Sanko tried to defend herself but to no avail. Ultimately, this incident spread like wildfire on Social media. Where fans can be a bit too harsh.

Maybe ‘The Notorious’ is British after all

Fans commented on this awkward mistake from the journalist. But, instead of trolling her, they quickly threw Conor McGregor under the bus.
