Conor McGregor is anxious to return to the Octagon. The former two-division champion has been out of action, recovering from a broken leg he suffered in a loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. And ‘Notorious’ has spoken about his mental health struggles stemming from his inactivity.

McGregor seems to already have a roadmap for his return and has called out Nate Diaz for a trilogy after potential wins over Michael Chandler and then Justin Gaethje for the BMF title. And as the Dubliner gears up to make his UFC return sometime next year, let us look at how his training is going and his coach coming out with some bad news regarding his return.

Conor McGregor is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) currently, but not on vacation. The Irishman is hard at work and training for his comeback. However, he is not training with John Kavanagh, his longtime coach at the moment. Instead, the Dubliner has been training with former PFL featherweight champion Brendan Loughnane in what the latter described as “belter rounds”.

‘Mac’ is slated to fight rival TUF coach Michael Chandler in a welterweight bout on his return to the UFC. However, the exact date of ‘Mac’s return remains unknown. The Dubliner had spoken about fighting in April which would have coincided with UFC 300.

However, coach Kavanaugh has told Ariel Helwani that the date for McGregor’s date has been pushed back to July. They were not too pleased as they were hoping for an earlier date. “We were hoping for April. That was the hope. That was what we were told. And now it seems to be the summertime,” Kavanagh said on ‘The MMA Hour’ show.

“But look, and this is what I was saying to him as well — yeah, OK, it’s a knock back if we’re hearing it was April but now it’s July, but it’s not the end of the world,” he added. While his absence from the UFC may have not have been enjoyable for his fans, his inactivity has freed him up to get more involved in his many businesses which have made him a multi-millionaire.

And this has helped him set up other businesses, including the media company ‘The Maclife’, his clothing line ‘August McGregor’, and FAST, a fitness program, alongside other minor businesses. ‘Mac’ also owns a pub called The Black Forge Inn, which has become a major attraction in his native Dublin due to his involvement.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
