This weekend, MMA fans will witness the showdown of two hard-hitting former champions: Alex Pereira and Jan Blachowicz. According to many, the fight is a title eliminator for UFC’s Light Heavyweight strap, with the winner likely facing former champion Jiri Prochazka next. Both Pereira and Blachowicz have held the UFC gold previously. So this time, when the two ferocious strikers enter the octagon, their eyes will be set on getting back their championship status.

As anybody following the sport will know, either man can finish the fight with a single hit. But the question remains, can ‘Poatan’ triumph over the ‘Polish Power’? Interestingly, both of them also holds a win over a common foe who chimed in with a crucial take on the subject ahead of the bout.

In the latest video on his YouTube channel, Israel Adesanya gave his take on the upcoming clash between Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira. According to ‘The Last Stylebender,’ his former opponent Alex Pereira hits harder than Jan Blachowicz. He credited his fellow Glory alumni’s technique for his power shots. In the Kiwi’s opinion, this could play out in the Brazilian’s favor against his Polish rival.

Talking about the power of his two previous rivals, Adesanya said: “I think Alex hits harder, and it’s just the way he throws. The technique, he throws with the technique, he grounds himself, he’s not running, he’s not moving and throwing, he sits when he gets you where he wants you, especially against the fence.” This analysis is an important insight, considering the shared history Adesanya shares with the two fighters.

It is noteworthy that Pereira and Blachowicz are the only two fighters to beat Israel Adesanya in the UFC. While Blachowicz outpointed Adesanya on scorecards, Pereira finished him with strikes. Nevertheless, the middleweight champion picked ‘Poatan’ to finish the former champion in the first round itself.

However, he also addressed Blachowicz’s better ground game, something which could help the former Light Heavyweight champion seal the victory, in case the fight goes to the judges. Additionally, this fight is monumental in deciding the future of the UFC 205 lbs division.

What’s next for UFC’s Light Heavyweight division?

If there is one title in the UFC that doesn’t seem to stay on shoulders, it has to be the 205 strap. For years, Jon Jones maintained an iron grip over the strap. But ever since ‘Bones’ vacated his throne in 2020, the Light Heavyweight Gold has exchanged hands with four different athletes: Jan Blachowicz, Glover Teixeira, Jiri Prochazka, and Jamahal Hill. With Hill injured, the belt is once again vacant. Many expected Hill to face Prochazka or the winner of the UFC 291 clash between Blachowicz and Pereira.

But now it seems the UFC needs to alter their plans, likely with Jiri Prochazka into the mix. The Czech fighter never really lost his title and is coming off an injury that forced him to vacate the UFC gold.
