Francis Ngannou is the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. The French Cameroonian mixed martial artist took on interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane at UFC 270. It was a fight everyone had been waiting for. And Ngannou left no doubts in anybody’s mind that he was the worthy champion.

Gane is an excellent kickboxer and was deemed as a tough matchup for Ngannou. He displayed his full striking prowess in his interim title match against a very dangerous Derrick Lewis. ‘Bon Gamin’ broke Lewis down and systematically dismantled him. The French fighter mixed up his attack very well and kept Lewis at bay with his excellent movement.

However, ‘The Predator‘ completely caught everyone by surprise when, instead of his striking, he used his grappling. He shut Gane down and was able to overpower him and keep him on the ground. After retaining his title, during the post-fight press conference, Ngannou talked about his current contract situation. During the press conference, he was asked about a scenario about fighting Jon Jones or Tyson Fury, given the money was right.

He said, “If the contract was right? I don’t know, man, I was so pumped up for the Jon Jones fight the last time. Since that was a promise before the fight, that the winner between Stipe and I was gonna fight Jon Jones. But since I won that fight, I never heard about it.”

“So, at this point, I don’t really know what’s possible. I don’t know what is off the table, so, kind of like lay down and see,” he added.

Jones and Ngannou looked to be on a collision course not so long ago, but that fight didn’t materialize.

Dana White snubbed Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou is in a contract dispute with the UFC for a long time now. It is not a hidden fact, with both parties openly talking about it. However, it seems like things are way worse than thought before.

After ‘The Predator’ retained his title, Bruce Buffer made the winner announcement. Surprisingly, it was not Dana White who presented Ngannou with the belt, but Mick Maynard.

It was even more surprising because White was present at the event. He even presented Deiveson Figueiredo with the belt after he defeated Brandon Moreno. It will be interesting to see where things go from here with Ngannou and the UFC.
