“I See the Benefits of Conor Coming Back but…”: After Dana White’s Update on Conor McGregor’s Return, UFC Star Drops Concerning Claims on Irishman’s Comeback
Beneil Dariush recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of the UFC superstar, Conor McGregor, making a comeback to the lightweight division. Although there have been concerns about McGregor’s recent increase in size, there are doubts about his return to the lightweight division. Nonetheless, the Californian fighter believes that the Irishman has the necessary resources to accomplish it.
Dariush himself is on the verge of earning a title shot. He has only a forthcoming bout against Charles Oliveira standing in his path. The 32-year-old recognizes the influence and attention that McGregor brings to the division. However, his main concern lies with the entire division getting stagnant. Dariush is worried that McGregor’s return could further delay his long-awaited opportunity to compete for the title. He even stated that he was more concerned about the negative side.

Dariush acknowledges McGregor’s potential return to the lightweight division but expresses concern about the potential consequences it may have on the title picture and the delay it could cause for his own pursuit of a championship fight.
While talking to MMA Junkie, Dariush said, “As far as him re-entering the lightweight division, I feel it’s great. It’s great, we get more eyes on us. What I don’t like is how slow things start to move. Because everybody wants to fight him and everybody is willing to sit out and wait for him. And if he does win and let’s say he wants to fight for the title, they’ll wait, you know. They’ll push things back and they’ll make things take forever.”

Talking further on the same topic, he added, “So I see the benefits of Conor coming back, but the negatives I think for me personally outweigh it. Because it just slows things down and you get such a logjam.” In the latest interview with The Mac Life, the UFC president, Dana White claimed that McGregor will return to the UFC octagon by the end of 2023. What’s next for Beneil Dariush?
Dariush and Charles Oliveira are all set to lock horns at UFC 289. The bout will take place on June 10, 2023, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. It is quite obvious that the winner between Oliveira and Dariush would get to fight against the current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. Makhachev himself came forward to say that he wanted to lock horns with Dariush for his title defense.

It seems that the champion does not wish for a rematch against Oliveira. Instead, he wants a new opponent who has the toughness to challenge his title. However, it is to be noted that the Irishman’s return may bring a lot of changes to the division.
