Is Michael Chandler One of the Shortest Lightweights in UFC?

This weekend, fans prepare themselves to witness another spectacular MMA event in the form of UFC 262. This is the second full capacity event of 2021, which will take place inside the Toyota Center at Hudson, Texas.

Approximately 17,000 fans will attend the event where the vacant Lightweight title will hang in balance when the headliners step into the octagon. Michael Chandler will battle Charles Oliveira in what will mark his first 5-round fight in the UFC.

Chandler fought Dan Hooker in his previous fight. The ‘Hangman’, standing at 6’0″, came into the fight with a 4.5-inch reach advantage over his opponent.

Chandler looked small and a lot of fans wondered whether Michael Chandler was one of the shortest UFC fighters? And the answer to that question is No, ‘Iron’ is not the shortest fighter in the list of Top-15 Lightweight fighters.

Michael Chandler is the second shortest in the Lightweight division, as he stands 1.73m tall, which is 5′ 8″, and weighs in at 154lbs for his Lightweight bouts.

The Lightweight fighter who is shorter than Michael Chandler

The 13 ranked Lightweight in Gregor Gillespie comes in as the shortest fighter in the division. He is only 1.70m tall which is 5’7″.

Although he is the shortest fighter in the division, he is one of the toughest fighters with only a single loss to his name along with 14 victories.

The former Lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is 1.73m which is 5′ 8″, much like Chandler. ‘RDA’ possesses a reach of 70″, which is less than that of Chandler, 71.5″.

Conor McGregor is the biggest name whose height can be compared to Michael Chandler in the division. McGregor is 1.75m or 5′ 8.8″ tall which is 0.02m more than the Lightweight contender.

McGregor’s current rival Dustin Poirier, along with Diego Ferreira and Thiago Moises, shares the same figures of 1.75m in height.

Michael Chandler has proved that being short is not a problem when a person is determined to achieve his goals. Hard work is the key to overcome our shortcomings.

With hard work, people are capable of going all the way to glory. One such example is Daniel Cormier, who was one of the shortest Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight fighters in the UFC.

‘DC’ defeated a lot of tall fighters while he was chasing the UFC gold which includes Anthony Johnson, Derrick Lewis, and many others.

Chandler is on a similar path and will have to beat Charles Oliveira who is 5’10” tall to capture the UFC gold.
