The UFC featherweight division is starting to get heated up as Alexander Volkanovski might make a return. However, that is not what he demands. The UFC featherweight champion wants to fight Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight championship. ‘The Great’ is still the pound-for-pound number 1 despite losing to the Dagestani in a close fight.

With Yair Rodriguez winning the UFC interim featherweight championship, chances for the immediate rematch for Alexander Volkanovski look grim. Moreover, the fans have bashed ‘The Great’ over his latest remark. Furthermore, Dana White has commented on this issue too.

Another fan attacked ‘The Great’, “Exactly this if your available to fight but not fighting in the division you hold the belt, and saying the interim can be defended in the meantime you and not making a match for undisputed title, volk should be stripped and yair given proper belt”.

Similarly, another fan said, “Jesus Christ not every title fight needs an immediate rematch. We got two other divisions where the champ was knocked out doing rematches now he wants a rematch off a decision loss.”

Furthermore, one Reddit user said, “I wouldn’t mind if UFC would enforce fighting in a single weight class to retain a title (and thus automatically stripping the title when you move up or down). These champ champ super fights always end up in silly interim titles, problematic timings and holding up divisions.”

One fan commented. “I got downvoted for saying Volk doesn’t deserve a rematch. He hasn’t even fought in this division and he wants two consecutive title fights”.

However, another fan added, “I feel like an immediate rematch coming off a close decision is more warranted than a knockout”.

Dana White confirmed the status of the featherweight division

After the UFC Vegas 70, Dana White spoke to the press and discussed the status of the UFC featherweight division. The UFC President confirmed, “You have to do Yair (vs. Volkanovski). You have to do that fight… And then you have the rematch.”
