Despite shuffling among his multiple professions, Joe Rogan has maintained a successful comedy career. One of the most influential comedians in the country once opened up about an incident, which led to his ban from the Comedy Store. The incident dates back to 2007 when he got involved in an altercation onstage with another comedian, Carlos Mencia.

Talking on his popular podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the UFC commentator narrated the incident that took place in February 2007.

What did Joe Rogan say about the infamous incident?

Talking on his podcast episode of 2018, Rogan stated he stopped visiting the Comedy Store for 7 years. The standup comic pointed out the incident involving fellow comedian Carlos Mencia.

Rogan recalled that Mencia was more popular than him. Further, he added, “The Comedy Store took his side. And I was like, oh f**k you guys. And I, I took off.”

Subsequently, the 55-year-old mentioned that it was similar to a little battle. The dilemma included whether to let people profit from the crime or not. Also, the former Fear Factor host detailed what was happening and drew parallels with thoughtcrime, intellectual crime, and plagiarism.

Following this, the famous TV presenter mentioned that no one was doing anything about it and one person was allowed to profit from it. “So when one of us does something about it, then you’re going to punish that person. You’re basically highlighting everything that everyone was afraid of,” Rogan later on added.

The popular podcaster had previously accused Carlos Mencia of stealing jokes on multiple occasions. Notably, Rogan dubbed the Honduran comedian as “Carlos Menstealia” during this confrontation.

Joe Rogan’s ban from Comedy Store

In the same segment, Rogan also gave the reason for his ban from the comedy club. The famed podcaster stated that they made a video of him and Mencia arguing on the stage. Subsequently, they uploaded the video online.

But, as pointed out by the standup comic, this resulted in some violation that he couldn’t pinpoint exactly. In addition, Rogan claimed, “I’m like, you don’t get it; you weren’t protecting us. No one was protecting us.”

Due to the same incident, the commentator’s agents dumped him. However, Rogan either had to apologize or the Comedy Club declared to not work with the artist. To this, the podcast host replied, “Well, we’re done. You know there’s no apology and we’re never gonna work together.”

After that incident, the Honduran comedian faced a steep slump in his career. And Joe Rogan ultimately made his return to the Comedy Store in 2013 to support his friend, Ari Shaffir’s first special shot.

The reputed Comedy Store recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary as the club started in 1972. On this occasion, Rogan remembered his time with the famed club and further called this place the greatest comedy club in the world. In addition, he called it a “true honor” to perform there.
