If Jon Jones was one of the first few names that came to your mind for the UFC 300 main event, you’re not alone. ‘Bones’ is the rightful heavyweight champion of the world who is currently out due to a terrifying injury. This makes current top-ranker Tom Aspinall the interim champion instead. But will Jones come back at UFC 300 to reclaim what’s rightfully his?
Interestingly enough, Dana White and Co., also wanted Jones to make his grand comeback at the big pay-per-view. Nevertheless, perhaps something came in the way. Jones was reportedly very excited about the idea of coming back but there’s only so much he can do.

As honored as he would be, ‘Bones’ is still not quite there yet. He spoke to UFC insider Hunter Campbell earlier who offered him the big main event. Of course, fans would love to see Jones come back and take his championship title back from Aspinall but the injury was just bad enough to keep him occupied for a little while longer.
“I got a call from Hunter Campbell.” Jones told Submission Radio. “He said, “Jon, I know it’s only nine weeks away, but if there’s any chance you’re feeling up to it, it would be awesome news for the community that you’re coming back and headlining one of the biggest events ever.” And, as honored as I am for the opportunity, I just don’t think I’ll be ready.”

Jones tore his pectoral muscles while grappling with his sparring partner during his camp. His bout against Stipe Miocic to defend his heavyweight title was canceled because of the same reason. And once Jones called it out, even Miocic decided to return to training because he wouldn’t fight anyone else.

And it makes sense too. Who would settle for less when you’re preparing to go to war with perhaps the greatest heavyweight on the planet? Now, the fate of the title hangs in the balance. Tom Aspinall being the interim champion is ready and raring to go at it with someone. But who could the challenger be?

Alex Pereira has become a terrifying force within the UFC. In very little time, he’s already become champion of not one but two divisions. Will he make it a third belt now? Pereira and Tom Aspinall have been hinting at a potential heavyweight match for the title and it only makes sense for ‘Poatan’ to move on to a new division to aim for the 3-divisional champ title.

However, in a confession earlier, Pereira admitted that he’d love to move on to heavyweight but only when he’s ready. He has no intention of rushing it and currently, his priority lies in defending his light heavyweight championship instead for the time being.
