Before Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier take the certain stage next weekend, Max Holloway will headline UFC’s first event of 2021. A former featherweight champion, Holloway is one of the few fighters who has fought both Poirier and McGregor. Ahead of the blockbuster rematch between the two, Holloway has given his two cents on how he views the fight between the two.
Poirier and McGregor share four common opponents between them. One of them is Holloway, who fought McGregor back in 2013 and went against Poirier on two separate occasions. Despite being one of the best fighters on the UFC roster, Holloway came up short on all three occasions.
The Hawaiian talked to the media ahead of his fight this weekend against Calvin Kattar. He predicted nothing short of fireworks in the pairing between the two.

“That’s a big fight. That’s a huge fight. At the end of the day, Dustin is always motivated. He is always motivated for a fight. And then Conor look’s very motivated. You got a shaved head Conor, so it should be a good fight,” Holloway said.
“As a fan, that fight is very intriguing and I think this is gonna be big, you know. It’s gonna be huge. Like I said, it’s gonna be the first PPV of the year. I think it’s gonna be a good fun fight,” he added.

Holloway has his task cut out for this weekend. He has lost both his past two contests to the current 145-pounds champ, Alexander Volkanovski. It doesn’t help Holloway’s case that the second one was a controversial decision that could have gone his way on any other day.
Whatever be the case, it is hard for him to get a third fought with the featherweight champ. Therefore, he will have to get a win or two under his belt before he could make the case for fighting for the belt again.

Standing in front of him will be rising contender Calvin Kattar. The fighter from Boston is coming off two back-to-back wins in 2020 over top 10 contenders. In a time when the top five of the division has been rather inactive, Kattar has pounced on every opportunity he has had. If he wins over Holloway this weekend, don’t be surprised if he breaks into the top three or even gets a title shot.
