Few fighters in the history of the UFC have been as hyped as Khamzat Chimaev. The Chechen made his UFC debut on July 16, 2020, and went on to make his second appearance in the promotion just ten days later in the same month. With his exciting fighting style, relentless pace, and natural mic skills, fans were smitten with the prospect.

And his UFC career so far has, in many people’s opinion, justified that hype. He has stopped all his opponents within the stipulated rounds. All opponents, except one. He faced #2 ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns in an exciting match at UFC 273. And it was a thrilling affair, which impressed many, including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. In fact, he took to Twitter to let his thoughts known on the bout.

Khamzat Chimaev faced Gilbert Burns in the first bout, where the Emirati was really tested in his MMA career. He had steamrolled all the opponents he had faced before fighting the Brazilian at UFC 273 last year. Although Chimaev emerged victorious via a unanimous decision at the end of the three rounds, Burns put on a good performance, with some even arguing he should have won.

All agreed, however, that it was an excellent fight. And ‘The Rock’ was one of those people. He took to Twitter after the fight and praised the fight. “Holy sh*t. What a fight!!! Burns/Chimaev #UFC273,” the WWE superstar wrote.

‘Durinho’ had managed to out-strike the Chechen 119-108, which came as a surprise to many. It was a back-and-forth affair, with Burns landing some hard shots, including one that stunned Chimaev. Despite this, the Chechen was able to score the only knockdown of the fight. Chimaev also succeeded in taking his opponent down multiple times.

The fight earned the Fight of the Night bonus, and UFC boss Dana White even awarded Burns a victory bonus despite losing because of the grit and heart he displayed. Both fighters gave it their all in the Octagon, and both men came out looking better after their epic duel.
