While living in Hong Kong, Chan would wake up at dawn and train with his father. “Having trained in Hung Gar martial arts, Dad was able to teach me some simple moves, and he?d watch me practice them.”

In fact, once he revealed how the neighbors belittled him after learning about his aspirations in life, as he “wanted to be a flying man.” Failing to comprehend the little boy’s words, they would laugh and doubt, “Flying how?” To answer this, he would say, “Flying very high!” But by that, he eventually invited mockery upon himself. As the actor penned down, “They?d laugh and tell me not to fly yet, that I’d hurt myself. ‘Wait until you’re grown up!”

Interestingly, these scoffs didn’t impact the boy. In fact, he never stopped dreaming big, as just after this incident, the actor penned how he always wanted to look like an American cowboy and managed to get an outfit, after pestering his parents for a while. However, even though he hailed from a relatively humble background, Chan was evidently predestined for something spectacular, something that no man of Hong Kong had ever seen.
