Across his prolific history of movies, Bruce Lee had certain signature moves that he used in many of his movies. Some would involve kicks, hand chops, and so on. But all of them were performed in his unique way. Today, when fans remember the star for his movies, they remember his classic moves on the bad guys in the film.
In a recent video on his Instagram handle run by his daughter, Shannon, one of Lee’s iconic kicks from his movie made it to the feed. What stood out was how this wasn’t the first time he performed a kick like that. Let’s take a look at the movie clip and what was so special about the kick.

Bruce Lee shot up with his jump kicks
The video featured a scene from the movie?Way of the Dragon. The context was set – the protagonist had gotten into a fight with the opponents. What stood out was how in the end, when there was only one bad guy left, instead of beating him up to a pulp, Lee resorted to scaring him, using one of his tricks.

At first, Bruce Lee tries to dismiss the man. But when he realized that he wouldn’t leave, he scared him away. One of the star’s most poignant moves is his kick. And for this scene, Lee used his jump-kick to reach up and break a light fixture on the ceiling.
With a single, strong kick, Lee broke the light fixture with a loud crash. Witnessing this, the bad guy ran helter-skelter to his safety. This wasn’t the first Bruce Lee movie with a jump-kick. Since the martial arts legend often added his touch to fight scenes and their execution, jump kicks were a part of many other movies. However, up until Way of the Dragon, Lee had some unspoken rules.

Co-star Chuck Norris got Lee out of his strict ways
While shooting for their epic blockbuster, Norris noticed how his friend and co-star followed some rules in fighting. The problem was these rules acted as limitations.

One of these rules included the refusal to kick above the waist. Norris immediately encouraged Lee to give them up in order to include more fighting tricks. This turned out to be a boon in disguise since Lee’s high kicks got better. While the star left a gaping void in Hollywood after his demise, Bruce Lee’s legacy continues to live on in these anecdotes and memories.
