Jaycee Chan, Jackie Chan’s son, had a very different childhood as opposed to his father. Throughout the interview, Jackie animatedly reenacted his son’s mannerisms, invoking bursts of laughter from the crowd. While the actor joked around it, an underlying message provoked some thought among the audience.

Jaycee grew up differently compared to his father Jackie Chan

Growing up, Jackie never thought one could sue their parents and teachers. In fact, hitting the child for disciplining them was quite common and practiced across various Eastern societies familiar to him. However, his son Jaycee Chan saw things differently. The younger Chan grew up in a culture where he never had to fear a “shot” across the cheeks or a whip across the wrist from his elders.

Jackie explained how his son would always behave in a way he wouldn’t have dared to in his childhood, even for something as simple as putting shoes away. The senior martial artist explained how he would always make sure to put them away properly. However, his son would have his shoes thrown in different rooms. The way Jaycee addressed elders also became a problem for him, particularly because of his father’s disapproved.

When Jackie would greet his elders, he would bow, with a stiff body language, and serve them around. Jaycee, on the other hand, was so different that he would annoy his father due to his mannerisms. “When he not move, he cannot talk”, exclaimed Jackie during the interview, referring to his son’s constant casual movement while talking. While it might be normal for his son, Jackie would always find it disrespectful.

Meanwhile, in the middle of the interview, Jackie Chan, being the born entertainer he is, proceeded to imitate his son’s way of talking. This triggered an outburst of laughter among the studio audience.

Jackie and Jaycee would often butt heads

Since his children were young, Jackie had made it clear that he would not pass on any inheritance to them. The martial arts legend strictly believed in earning one’s own bread and any kind of inheritance would only cause trouble. In an age where parents would try to protect their children, Jackie was firm in his ideals – if they want it, they should earn it.
