All the great accomplishments Jackie Chan earned throughout his career contributed toward his monumental $400 million fortune. It is a sum synonymous with his lifelong worth of hard work. Therefore, it is likely he would give it a good thought before leaving it to anyone in his life. Surprisingly, he left it to former actress and his wife, Joan Lin. He wanted her to have everything he ever earned. But, this intention broke into Chan’s mind after a particular incident.

As revealed in Never Grow Up, the actor was once under fire with his wife, after the media broadcasted the news of an affair. Unable to confront her on the issue, he reached his home. He sat down with his family and addressed the matter that helped Chan realize the true worth of Lin in his star life.

Jackie Chan entitles his wife to his fortune

According to the book, the 68-year-old actor was once determined to name his will in his wife’s name and leave his entire million-dollar empire to her. “I went to my lawyer’s office to have my will changed,” he stated. However, this effort came after Chan was finally able to wrap his head around Lin’s sole intentions. He empathized with her life and developed a better understanding between them.

Furthermore, Chan disclosed, “When I started to empathize with her, I came to respect her more and more. She is a strong woman, stronger than I am in many ways.” Apparently, the Rush Hour star went back home while the media criticized him for his love affair. Evidently, it was disheartening news for a couple who were still going strong after 17 years of marriage. Hence, he sought to make things right.

After reaching home, he was formally greeted by Lin with a “Hi,” no more, no less than that. Moreover, even his son, Jaycee Chan paid no heed to him, after he returned from school. Chan finally mustered up the courage to deal with the situation and called out to his wife. “Let’s have a family meeting for the first time in all these years,” he declared. He pleaded for their forgiveness, for abandoning them all these years. He also apologized for the tumult he’d been causing for them.

What led Chan to doubt his wife’s intentions?

As per the source, Chan spent a significant amount of time with his martial arts friends, hearing their stories and experiences. On one such occasion, a particular friend once broke the news that his girlfriend had swept out his apartment, stealing all his possessions. “One of my martial artist friends came home after a movie shoot to his entire house cleaned out by his girlfriend—money, savings, furniture, all gone,” the book implied.

Additionally, most of Chan’s friends chastised women and had stereotypical perceptions. Thus, it had an influence on their marriage. Likewise, he expected that someday Lin would deceive him as his friend had been. As a result, Chan began keeping his money from his wife and only sent an amount that was made to measure came back home.
