Special Olympics stands as a powerful force. It empowers athletes with intellectual disabilities to become societal leaders. Beyond the confines of the playing field, it offers them opportunities to acquire skills. These skills extend far into their daily lives. Unfortunately, some schools and colleges, driven by misguided intentions, organize such events merely to showcase their benevolence towards these athletes. In contrast, there are institutions like New Kent High School located in New Kent, Virginia, just east of Richmond. This school embraces a more profound mission.
Despite being ranked #7,223 in the National Rankings, the school has recently made a significant mark. It hosted the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament. Moreover, the event showcased the school’s commitment to inclusivity. It provided a platform for these exceptional athletes to shine. This exemplifies the true spirit of the Special Olympics.
