The Penn State Wrestling Program has inarguably been the best NCAA Division 1 Wrestling program for more than a decade now. The success of the program isn’t just visible by the yearly accumulation of points by its roster, but by individual performers and NCAA champs as well. Despite this, however, the home turf of the Nittany Lions has a very uncanny feature.

Home of Penn State Wrestling, the legendary Rec Hall sees some of the most passionate and loyal wrestling fans of the Nittany Lions. However, this support seems lacking in one area, which PSU has taken care of in an unconventional way. A new online video showcases HC Cael Sanderson getting questioned about this, which resulted in him giving words to a big concern.

The inaudible support for Penn State Wrestling superstars

The Centre Daily Times of Pennsylvania added a new video to its YouTube channel. The video showed Cael Sanderson of Penn State Wrestling being asked about the music played at the Rec Hall during the matches. Responding to the query, the head coach of PSU said, “Rec Hall is like awkwardly quiet. And so, we need some noise in there.”

He further added, “Last time I didn’t hear that people were saying, turn the music off! If people made more noise, we would turn the music off. It’s just so quiet in there. I mean, you can hear a four-year-old kid up in the corner. ‘Yeah, we are!’” The Penn State Wrestling HC made another point, which was actually for the benefit of the spectators.

Sanderson noted, “And if that’s the case, it’s too quiet. You know, and it’s awkward… we are trying to just make it less awkward so you can talk and have a conversation with somebody sitting next to you without everyone in the arena hearing you.”

Sailing smoothly towards the title of a GOAT

The Penn State Wrestling roster of 2023-24 consists of several high-ranking starters. To be precise, every Penn State starter is under the top 15 for every weight class. Moreover, the Nittany Lions also have four NCAA champs and five NCAA finalists in their lineup. Interestingly, this is helping them rake up a lot of team points.

The current NCAA Division 1 record for the highest number of team points by a roster is 170. This record belongs to the 1997 batch of the Iowa Hawkeyes. But, that roster only had five champions on its team, unlike Penn State Wrestling. If everyone conserves their momentum, the current roster will become the best of all time and also win its 11th championship in 13 years. Do you think the Nittany Lions will be able to achieve this feat with its current roster?
