Richardson faced a one-month ban before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after posting a sensational time to qualify. Yet, things went south. And now, she posted a tweet stating how the interview with ‘TODAY’ came up probably when she was at the lowest point of her career. 

An emotional outburst

In the interview with TODAY, Richardson focused on how she dealt with her problems after the sudden passing of her biological mother. From being the sixth-fastest woman in the world to finishing last in her comeback race, Richardson’s road to redemption has not been straightforward. Thus, in her latest tweet, Richardson explained she could have kept that interview for a later time. 

“I wish I never did this. I wish I had the choice when it was time for me to tell my story,” mentioned Richardson, in a rather subtle introspection of her problems. After setting 10.86 in the women’s 100-meter dash for the Olympic Trials, her career took a downward spiral. She received a ban from the World Anti-Doping agency for using a banned substance.

Soon after, that interview came out, and she faced a backlash from the track and field fraternity. It ended rather tamely. But a professional athlete finds their inner spirit when the chips are down, and she is back. Back with a bang, silently going around her business and aiming to be the next Olympic gold medalist. The 2022 Nike Prefontaine Classic results were a testament to her progress.

The first step looks promising as she finished second at the recently concluded Nike Prefontaine Classic.
