Ben Shelton didn’t have the start he expected at the 2025 Nitto ATP World Tour Finals. Locking horns with Alexander Zverev in the opening group-stage clash, the American tennis star ended up being brushed aside by the German sensation 6-3, 7-6(8-6) in Turin. But even after such a tough defeat, there was a brighter side, courtesy of a viral dance video that caught the eye of Shelton’s beloved girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, who couldn’t help but make a hilarious confession about her boyfriend.

Just when the game was set to begin, Shelton was seen walking towards his side bench, holding his bag, with headphones to prove he was locked in for the game. But behind him was following an official ATP Tour ball boy, wearing sponsored gear and holding a big dummy tennis ball in his hand, almost the size of a big football. The kid must be in his 10s. The moment Shelton turned to keep his bag, there was the boy quickly starting to dance in the dimly lit atmosphere of the Pala Alpitour court.
His steps saw him jumping while bringing his legs in a crossed manner. While watching his moves, the 22-year-old tennis star couldn’t hold his joy and laughter, focusing on the kid’s moves. He was even nodding his head to appreciate the little one’s efforts. Interestingly, this small 10-second clip was shared by Tennis TV on Instagram in collaboration with ATP Tour pages, with a caption saying, “10/10 no notes,” while adding a hip-hop background music track at the back of it.

As this video caught the eye of Trinity Rodman, she couldn’t help herself but reshare it on her Instagram stories with a caption involving Shelton that read, “POV: Me trying to get Ben to do a tik tok w me 😂😭.” In fact, this wasn’t all, as the Washington Spirit forward even took that reel’s comment section to add another general comment that read, “He’s been waiting his whole life for this 😭😂,” praising the kid for his energetic and bold dance.
Boy, did this kid light up the entire mood of the venue, and even after the game, there is no stopping the tennis world from also heaping praise like Rodman. Speaking of which, it was quite a hilarious caption written by the NWSL star. It’s no secret that Trin is quite an expert in making TikToks. Heck, this was the very way she made a hard launch of her relationship with Ben Shelton via a TikTok trend.

Certainly, the World No. 6 must have shared a laugh with Trinity Rodman after the game, even though the end result didn’t go in his favor. While addressing the blunder, he said, “I know the forehand is a weapon, but today I lost because of it. Can my second serve improve? I wouldn’t say the serve is the problem, but the choices I make after it.”
Moving on, he will be facing Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime for the second round group stage clash, which is a must-win for him if he wishes to stay in the tournament. While that’s all that has been going on in Ben Shelton’s professional life, how are things with Trinity Rodman?

Trinity Rodman grapples with injury woes as Washington fights alone
Spoiler alert, not well. The Newport Beach native is having some sort of bad luck when it comes to injuries. A few months ago, Trinity Rodman’s back issues forced her to pause all activity and focus entirely on recovery, even traveling to London for treatment. While she made a successful return, her troubles continued as she suffered an MCL sprain during the Washington Spirit’s Concacaf W Champions Cup clash against Monterrey on October 15. The 23-year-old went down in the first half, leaving the field in tears on crutches and with a knee brace.
Although coach Adrian Gonzalez called it a sprain, the setback came at a terrible time, right after her USWNT call-up from Emma Hayes for the October friendlies, which eventually saw her get removed from the team. Even now, Rodman still hasn’t fully recovered and missed the NWSL quarterfinal against Racing Louisville. Thankfully, the Spirit came alive in their game, securing a win through penalties with a 3-1 score after the match ended in a 1-1 draw. They will now face the Portland Thorns, who advanced with a narrow win over the San Diego Wave.

It will be interesting to see whether Trinity Rodman will be fit by then or not. In the meantime, she is enjoying and supporting her partner’s own crucial journey.
