Caitlin Clark’s star cast is just about to get an addition. First, the Indiana Fever retained their “No. 1 priority,” Kelsey Mitchell. “Indy’s been my second family. Everything I’ve been through the last eight years, I don’t think there’s any other place that was greater for me,” she said. Then, Lexie Hull was next as they almost completely retained their 2025 core. They also signed Monique Billings, who played for the Golden State Valkyries last year. Now, the Indiana Fever are on the verge of making another addition, as it’s to back up Caitlin Clark.

Clark spent most of the 2025 season injured. One soft tissue injury after another meant she played only 13 games, most of them on one leg. To make matters worse, the Indiana Fever had a point guard curse brewing. After Clark, her emergency replacement Aari McDonald broke her leg and Sydney Colson tore her ACL. Ahead of the 2026 season, the Indiana Fever are about to sign Clark’s immediate backup.
“The Indiana Fever are finalizing a deal with point guard Ty Harris, source familiar says,” Chloe Peterson wrote. “Announcement expected tomorrow.”

Harris is returning home. She is a Noblesville, Indiana native, and won three IHSAA state championships with Heritage Christian in high school. Harris has already played under Stephanie White at Connecticut for two seasons. One was a backup point guard, averaging 5.8 points and 1.7 assists while playing 16.7 minutes per game.
When she played as a starting point guard, she had a career-best season, averaging 10.7 points and 3 assists per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from the 3-point line and 76.6 percent from the free-throw line. Over her career, she has averaged 6.5 points and 2.5 assists after playing with the Wings and the Sun. She also teamed up with Aliyah Boston for one season at South Carolina.
Harris is a different type of guard than Caitlin Clark. A score-first point guard who can shoot threes. With Boston leveling up her creative duties last year, Harris could fit into this rotation.

However, even she is coming off a major injury. Harris had unspecified left knee surgery after 5 games last year and missed the rest of the 2025 season with the Dallas Wings. When Fever and WNBA fans pointed this out once her name was mentioned in the free agency, Harris fired back with a strong retort.
“Btw, I’ve been hurt twice in my 6 years … a rolled ankle sat out for 4 days then my first ever surgery beginning of last season so idk why y’all are saying im always hurt, 😅” she wrote. So, it seems Fever fans have little to worry about regarding her injury history. Even as the Fever close in on backcourt depth with Tyasha Harris, Caitlin Clark may have already dropped a hint about the franchise’s next move.
Caitlin Clark Sends Sophie Cunningham A Message As Indiana Fever Retain Core
Lexie Hull was one of Indiana Fever’s most important players last season. Clark was out, and so was Sophie Cunningham. Hull stepped up on defense and became the rugged perimeter defender that held everything together. So, there was little doubt that Fever was going to retain her. Boston, Hull, Clark and Mitchell are 4 of what could be their best starting five. Clark and Hull announced her Indiana return via a TikTok. At the same time, Clark also hinted that Cunningham could be next.
Clark commented, “@S O P H I E hey what’s up wyd,” Clark wrote. To which Cunningham replied, “The no invite is CRAZYYYYY!” You two better make up for this horrible TikTok.”
Cunningham was the sharp shooter Indiana Fever needed last year. She played 30 games before her season-ending injury, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 three-pointers. Cunningham shot a career best 43.2% from the three-point line. Her leadership in the locker room and the aggressiveness on the court were also valued among the fans who are desperately demanding her return.
Especially after Alanna Smith signed for the Dallas Wings. Smith was considered the perfect fit for the Fever, considering her versatility. Cunningham’s signing still looks grim considering the financial requirements from both sides. But they could compromise for the sake of building a title-contending roster.
