Two struggling teams who have decided to tank this season go head-to-head. And sure, both teams would still want to come out on top. But the chance to get a top-three draft pick and potentially lock in a star like Lauren Betts, Azzi Fudd, or Olivia Miles is something no one’s willing to pass up! Yes, we are talking about Dallas Wings vs Washington Mystics. Two teams that are coming off a 4-game losing streak and have already traded away key pieces, and are all-in on next year’s draft.

The Mystics have already traded their top scorer, Brittney Sykes, to the Seattle Storm for Alysha Clark and a 2026 first-round pick. But they didn’t stop there! They also sent Aaliyah Edwards to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for Jacy Sheldon, plus the right to swap Washington’s 2026 first-round pick (from Minnesota) for Connecticut’s 2026 first-round pick (from New York).

The Dallas Wings have also traded away NaLyssa Smith to the Las Vegas Aces in exchange for the Aces’ 2027 first-round draft pick. And her partner, DiJonai Carrington, headed to the Minnesota Lynx in a trade that saw Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson, and Minnesota’s 2027 WNBA Draft second-round pick go the other way.

Prediction: Can the Dallas Wings overcome the Mystics’ challenge?

It is widely believed that both Paige Bueckers and Myisha Hines-Allen will be available for the game against the Mystics as their status has been upgraded to probable. If that very well turns out to be the case, the Wings will be starting the game as overwhelming favorites to win.

Sure, the previous trends clearly favor the Mystics in the upcoming matchup. The Mystics have a better record (13-17) than the Wings (8-23). They are conceding just 80.6 points per game as opposed to the 86.5 the Wings have been conceding per game this season. So, why would the Wings be the favorites for the upcoming game?

Well, the Mystics have not only lost their scoring and assist leader in Brittney Sykes, who was averaging 15.4 points and 4.3 assists per game, but they’ve also lost a dependable bench player in Aaliyah Edwards, who contributed 6 points and 3.3 rebounds since returning from injury. On top of that, the Wings get to play at home, where they’ve won 5 of their 11 games this season.

Unsurprisingly, ESPN gives the Wings a solid 66.3% chance of coming out on top. Considering everything, if we had to place a bet, we would back them too. But what about you? Who are you rooting for in this game? Paige Bueckers or the exciting rookie duo of Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
