Lexie Hull has built quite the reputation as a fashion icon. From soft spring colors in Unrivaled’s Sephora walk to a biker jacket to open the season with the Fever, the Indiana guard has enjoyed the spotlight. “I’ve always been very into shopping and buying clothes,” Kelsey Mitchell’s teammate told Who What Wear, explaining that her love for fashion runs much deeper than the recent WNBA tunnel fit trend. And earlier this year, she took it up a notch.

In January, Lexie Hull announced her partnership with Athleta as part of the brand’s “Power of She Collective.”“It’s an honor to join the Power of She Collective alongside such an incredible group of athletes who are advancing both women’s sports and female empowerment. I’m looking forward to working with Athleta to help elevate and recognize female athletes in the way they truly deserve,” she said in a statement.

So, fans have caught on to her fashion game quite well. But after the Fever’s win over the Chicago Sky, Kelsey Mitchell joined in too. “My girl, se-y Lexie” was how Mitchell addressed Hull in the post-game conference. That’s Indiana Fever chemistry for you. Earlier, it was Aliyah Boston hyping Hull and ‘twin’ Sophie Cunningham when they walked out with matching yellow “Howdy Cowboy” crop tops with denim shorts and skirts, now it was Mitchell spotlighting the dynamic.

“This is a really unique and special team, and the locker room, we really do love each other,” Cunningham says, and we see it unfolding each day.

But while Hull has managed to grab plenty of social media attention this past week with her fashion game, her real statement came on the court.

Hull finished the game with 17 points, a huge relief for the guard who had been struggling lately. Over her previous three outings, she managed just 2 points total, shooting a rough .059% from the field on 17 attempts according to Lou Orlando of SI. To make matters worse, she was stuck in a career-worst slump from deep, missing 12 straight threes. And that’s not all! Across her past 10 outings, she’s averaged only 3.5 points on 22.4% shooting and 16.7% from deep, with her last double-digit scoring game dating all the way back to late June against the Seattle Storm.

Seeing her finally break free from that shooting slump was a sight Fever fans had been waiting for. But Lexie wasn’t the only bright spot in the win over the Chicago Sky. Even without Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Caitlin Clark, Indiana still managed to cruise to a dominant 22-point win. And the credit for that goes to Kelsey Mitchell!

“We’ve got players in that locker room who believe in one another, players in that locker room who are competitive as all get-out… I think now, it’s about playing to honor [Colson and McDonald], and playing for them,” Coach White had said before the game against the Chicago Sky while confirming that both Colson and McDonald were out for the rest of the season. She had made it clear that the offense would be centered around Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell would be given ball-handling duties.

This move definitely did work out as Mitchell would go on to score 26 points on 9-18 shooting while also providing 8 assists and grabbing 3 rebounds. This helped the Fever record their 18th win of the season as they try to navigate without three guards in the lineup. Now, the big question looms: Who will eventually step in to fill the shoes of the two missing backcourt pieces?

For Fever fans, seeing Hull snap out of her slump was a much-needed breath of fresh air, giving the team another scoring option when they desperately needed it. The big question now is when Caitlin Clark will return from injury, and how that will shape the Fever’s chances moving forward. Do you think they can make a deep playoff run this year?
