Why Did Australian Open Star Amanda Anisimova Leave Tennis All of a Sudden?

Amanda Anisimova has seen massive highs and lows in her tennis career. At just 17, the American tennis sensation reached the semifinals of the French Open in just her second appearance at the tournament. Subsequently, she went on to win a couple of WTA titles. However, last year, her career took a shocking turn. When it appeared that Anisimova was peaking in her career, she took a hiatus from the sport. But not many know the actual reason behind her decision to leave tennis.
Anisimova had a rough patch last year when she bowed out in the early stages of the tournaments. The poor results eventually took a toll on her and she announced her decision to leave the sport.
Amanda Anisimova battled mental health struggles

Things were not going according to plan, so the American star decided it was better to take a hiatus from the sport. While not many expected her break to be never-ending, Amanda Anisimova announced her decision in May last year. She took to her official Instagram handle, where she reasoned out her decision to step away from tennis.

Anisimova wrote, “Hey guys. I thought I’d make a post explaining what’s been going on and my plans. I’ve really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022. It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments.”
Further, she went on to add, “At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support.”

The pause from the racket sport eventually helped Anisimova heal from the difficult time and work on improving her mental health. In the process, she spent quality time with her family and even did a semester at university. Additionally, the American star also celebrated a special family moment during her hiatus.

Anisimova’s heartfelt message for her sister
A month after taking a break from tennis, Anisimova’s sister was blessed with twins, Kylo and Zayn. The American tennis star savored the moment with an adorable picture with them and posted it on her official Instagram handle.
Anisimova wrote in the caption, ” Kylo Zayn, my sister blessed us with the two most precious boys ever, my heart is so full.” Being away from tennis helped Anisimova enjoy precious moments with her family. It eventually helped her heal quickly and she made a return to the sport earlier this month.
