AEW Scores Modest Win Against WWE Despite John Cena and The Undertaker’s Special Appearances

WWE and AEW went head to head last night in a ratings war. This has never happened post the Monday Night Wars with WCW in the late 90s. It was dubbed as the Tuesday Night War, as Dynamite was shifted to Tuesday due to the MLB games. Thus directly competing with WWE’s NXT for the ratings. Both promotions amped up their respective shows by adding title defenses and special appearances.

But in the end, AEW seems to have scored a win in at least one department.

Dynamite was trending ahead of NXT in the US on Twitter

As the numbers from last night’s broadcast are yet to come in, AEW managed to show its dominance, at least on Twitter. Generally on Tuesday nights, #WWENXT is always trending at number 1. But last night, #AEWDynamite was at number 1, pushing #WWENXT to number 2.

Thus showing that at least on Twitter, more fans were interested in talking about Dynamite than NXT. This doesn’t make AEW the ultimate champion of the Tuesday Night War but it is a small win for them on Twitter. Last year, Dynamite defeated NXT in the ratings war and it is for this very reason that Triple H and Co added more star power to their Tuesday’s show.

To be honest, NXT seemed as good as RAW or SmackDown with appearances from top stars like John Cena, Cody Rhodes, LA Knight and Paul Heyman. Even The Undertaker made a comeback to the WWE last night in his signature biker style. In addition there were also appearances by Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, The Brawling Brutes and Asuka.

Mysterio also ended up losing his NXT North American Championship to Ilja Dragunov where LA Knight was the special guest referee. But one fan was quick to point out that by the end of the show, NXT was the only one still appearing in the top 5 trending topics on Twitter.

As we wait for the ultimate winner of the Tuesday Night War to be announced, Edge made his AEW wrestling debut last night.

Edge fought his first match in AEW against Luchasaurus

The last time Edge was seen wrestling in the ring was against his close mate Sheamus in the WWE. This match took place at the 25th-anniversary celebration of Edge in the WWE in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario.

After that, he left the WWE and joined AEW. And last night, Edge made his AEW in-ring debut against Luchasaurus. Luchasaurus dominated most of the match with his brutal wrestling style.

But in the end, Edge proved why he is called The Rated R Superstar by delivering a thunderous Spear, defeating Luchasaurus. Christian Cage, who was ringside, was left furious after Edge’s victory. But what do you guys think made AEW Dynamite much better than NXT last night?
