Imitation is the best form of flattery. And when one has an illustrious career such as Dusty Rhodes there are many who try to emulate him. Whether it’s his iconic mannerisms or way of speaking things, everything about him oozed greatness. And there was no shortage of people in the industry who tried doing ‘The American Dream’s’ impression.

Who better to judge the accuracy of the mimicry than the legend’s son Cody Rhodes? It was revealed in a discussion a few years ago who he thought performed an apt impression of his late great father.

Who does Cody Rhodes think impersonates his father the best?

A 2018 edition of the ‘Something To Wrestle with Bruce Prichard’ podcast holds the answer to that particular question. During the conversation, host Conrad Thompson disclosed who according to ‘The American Nightmare’ came close to impersonating his father. He said, “I read it the other day that Cody Rhodes absolutely hates when anybody does a Dusty impression”.

“Whenever someone’s telling him a Dusty story if they start using a Dusty voice he just walks away. And he says the only two people who he thinks have a good Dusty impression are you {Prichard} and Paul Heyman,” added Thompson.

Having spent so much time with Rhodes senior, the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match winner would have had a fair idea of how he sounded. And if he handpicked both Bruce Prichard and Paul Heyman as the best at it then in all probability he would be right.

Cody Rhodes Opens Up on His Decision Making After Father and WWE Legend Dusty Rhodes’ Death

However, that does not let other big names in the wrestling world from trying their hand at mimicking the legend. And it happened recently on the March 3rd edition of SmackDown.

Roman Reigns recently channeled his inner Dusty Rhodes

The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns showed his rendition of The American Dream impression. The Tribal Chief did it during a verbal battle with his WrestleMania 39 opponent Rhodes.

Reigns said during the promo, “Listen let me try to do a Dream real quick {imitating Dusty Rhodes} Baby, you have it you couldn’t get rid of it, you couldn’t sell it if you wanted to, you’re it”. ‘The Head Of The Table’ made the upcoming clash with Rhodes ‘At The Showcase Of Immortals’ even more personal through his remarks. 

It’s common knowledge that Rhodes senior was the mentor for Reigns for a long time. Moreover, his association with ‘The Wise Man’ might have sent his impersonation skills to a top-notch level. 

Whatever the case, there is no dearth of people in the business who have at least once tried a Dusty Rhodes impression. It would be a unique way for many to respect their hero. And if Cody Rhodes thinks Bruce Prichard and Paul Heyman do it better than anyone else, there won’t be many who will argue with him.
