The WWE was preparing for the return of Brock Lesnar as a participant in the 2024 Royal Rumble, but his role in the ongoing Vince McMahon lawsuit canceled his participation without any kind of prior announcement to the public.

According to several reports, Lesnar was going to star in two rivalries at the Road to WrestleMania. The first would have led him to face Dominik Mysterio, while the second would have positioned him in a dream match against Gunther. However, the fight, which was highly anticipated by the Intercontinental Champion, seems like a pipe dream now, and he too has shared his thoughts on the same.

Gunther has said on several occasions that his ‘Final Boss’ is Brock Lesnar. And after the confrontation they had at the Royal Rumble in 2023, there was speculation that there could be a match between the two at WrestleMania 40. This rivalry was intended to occur after the one that The Beast Incarnate would have started with Dominik Mysterio, facing the latter at Elimination Chamber 2024. But it seems like it won’t be possible now, as even Gunther shared his thoughts on the same. In a recent interview, Gunther stated, “I always was vocal about my dream match in the past, but that fell through now. I don’t know if we’ll see Brock again if that’s ever going to happen. But I’m wide open when it comes to that as of now.”

Gunther has written his name in the WWE books as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history. In his more than 600 days in gold, the Austrian has defended it 20 times against the likes of Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and The Miz. However, of all of them, Chad Gable may be the most remembered by fans. Not only did the leader of Alpha Academy maintain a lauded rivalry with Gunther, but he was also the only one capable of defeating him.

The story between the two reached a personal level and resulted in two title fights, with Chad winning the first by countout. Two weeks later, Gunther got his revenge with a hard-fought victory that put an end to the rivalry. However, Gable made it clear that he hadn’t given up yet. However, he will have to wait his turn as Gunther and Imperium are in the midst of a rivalry with The New Day. A rivalry that was joined by Jey Uso, who declared his intention to fight for the Intercontinental Championship. Like Gable, Jey Uso has never won an individual title. Rumors suggest that the Samoan could face the Austrian at WrestleMania XL. A fight that Gable will follow very closely.
