Dwayne Johnson unexpectedly showed up on SmackDown last night and surprised all the fans. Much to everyone’s excitement, “The Rock” finally came face-to-face with his distant cousin, Roman Reigns. However, the same episode also told fans that Cody Rhodes won’t be ‘finishing his story’ at WrestleMania 40 this year due to the match between the two Samoan cousins.

For nearly a year, WWE has been building Cody Rhodes’ story toward challenging Roman Reigns again so that he can ‘finish his story’ and complete his father’s legacy by bringing the Universal Championship to his family again. But now, the latest SmackDown episode uncovered the fact that Rhodes won’t be doing this at WrestleMania 40.

New reports suggest that this move was played out by none other than The People’s Champion himself. Although it is not claimed that Johnson had selfish reasons for the same, sources do imply that he had a major say in this decision.

According to PW Insider, WWE was going forward with the backup plan of having Cody Rhodes in the main event at Mania this year. However, reports claim that Dwayne Johnson stepped in to “Save WrestleMania” because both CM Punk and Brock Lesnar seem to be having complications appearing at the biggest PLE of the year.

The TKO board member believes that his match against Reigns is the better and more profitable card for the company to have. So, considering what’s best for the company, Dwayne Johnson went ahead with this decision. WWE also revealed in a now-deleted tweet that both the cousins will face each other at the upcoming WrestleMania Kickoff press conference in Las Vegas that will take place on 8th February.

Getting to know about this information, fans should also note that Johnson didn’t render Cody Rhodes useless. In fact, the TKO board has other plans for him moving into WrestleMania.

WWE didn’t ignore one of their biggest babyfaces at the present. But given the fact that “The Tribal Chief” will be facing DJ at WrestleMania 40, the promotion will most likely not have him face his long-running rival in the same event. To solve this, they booked “The American Nightmare” to go up against Seth Rollins.
