In May 2022, Dustin Rhodes appeared in an episode of ‘The Sessions with Renee Paquette‘. There, the wrestler shed light on how he got into the drug addiction altogether. It all started back in 1996 when the wrestler had a knee injury. He used to take some ‘vicodins’ and ‘opioids’ because reaching a doctor wasn’t as convenient as it is now. Even though Vince McMahon once warned him about over-usage, Rhodes had no intentions of stopping at that.

One pill after the other started to become a habit. Rhodes kept on increasing the dosage on his own without medical supervision. As a result, it became an addiction, and he watched himself ‘going down a spiral’ where he ‘lost sight of himself’. In the podcast, he also mentioned that this ‘pill’ addiction eventually led to him abusing other forbidden substances as well.

The wrestler recalled, “I had a house paid for. I lost it all. I pawned everything that I had, and at the very, very end, in like 2008, I lived in a connected garage, a one-stall garage, to somebody’s house that I was renting out for 100 bucks a month.” All this realization probably led to Rhodes wanting to change his lifestyle.

Through a gradual process, he was able to overcome the vices of drug addiction. He wants to become a beacon of hope for all those who feel like they can’t get over their addiction problems. “For those struggling with addiction, I was where you are and my life was turned upside down over drugs. Most times, the addict doesn’t even know or think he has a problem. Trust me, I know. You are either going to hit rock bottom and end up in jail or, worse, dead. Don’t let that happen. Help is out there and I am living proof that recovery works,” tweeted the wrestler.

It’s no surprise that chances are given to people even after they make grave mistakes. That’s the idea that Dustin Rhodes likes to believe in. He lays special weight on the importance of ‘help’ and how it is available when you go looking for it.
