WWE legend John Cena is certainly one of the greatest exports from wrestling to Hollywood. He is not the first and possibly won’t be the last to switch careers. But his charisma is largely unmatched, and that’s what makes him stand beyond the rest. It’s this special thing about him that has made him a big success in movies as well. His superstardom means that the wrestler-turned-actor charges a premium for his services. This was certainly true during his short appearance in a 2015 flick. Building the kind of fanbase that Cena has is not a day’s work but takes years of hard work. And that’s one thing the 16-time world champion displayed in abundance all throughout his career. It is this fan circle of his which enabled him to get a whopping fee of $ 2.5 million for a handful of scenes in the Amy Schumer starrer Trainwreck. The Cenation Leader was still in the nascent stage of his Hollywood career back then.

John Cena opened up on the part in the movie

In a past interview with ScreenRant, Cena detailed how his role in the movie came about. He said, “I’ve been very much looking to do a comedy for quite some time. When you’re a WWE superstar you’re kind of stuck in the television world, and that’s where I was spending most of my time. I was approached to audition for Trainwreck, but it wasn’t a sure shot though. Then I got asked back to do a table read with Amy and Judd and got cast in the movie from there“.

The Doctor of Thuganomics later added, “It’s a fun atmosphere to be a part of, this project especially. Working with Amy and Judd was fantastic and I would clock in and just laugh the whole day“. The astronomical fee the now full-time actor commanded was reportedly around $2.5 million, according to Buzzfeed. Cena’s part in the said movie was only for a paltry three scenes.

That is a nice sum to take off for a very small role in the project. The movie also featured an appearance from NBA great LeBron James. Notably, The Doctor of Thuganomics earned almost half of former NXT women’s champion and self-made millionaire Mandy Rose’s total worth. Cena has since established himself in the movie industry. His appearance in the 2021 ensemble Suicide Squad was quite appreciated by the audience.

The massive sum that John Cena made back in the day would not have surprised his fans. They know what the legendary performer can bring to the table. Even in such a tight schedule, he appeared in the last SmackDown of 2022 to get up one-up over Roman Reigns in a tag team match that also featured frenemies Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Cena would no doubt have gushed over the huge payout he received in 2015.
