WWE is on the verge of breaking a major record that has remained untouched for 39 years. But it will be matched at the upcoming Money In The Bank PLE on July 1. The original record, which has a connection to Dwayne Johnson, will be broken by his Anoa’i family at the O2 Arena in London.

With The Usos set to face Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at the PLE, fireworks are a guarantee, but apart from that history will be made when ‘The Bloodline Civil War’ takes place in London.

History is set to repeat itself

As mentioned above, the record was set 39 years ago. On January 21, 1984, members from the famed Anoa’i wrestling lineage went toe-to-toe in a match. That was the last time the Anoa’i family had people from its camp on either side.

The said match was an eight-man tag team match with the stipulation of best two out of three falls. DJ’s father, Rocky Johnson, teamed up with Jimmy Snuka, Tony Atlas, and Andre the Giant to take on Sgt. Slaughter and The Wild Samoans (a team comprising Afa, Samula, and Sika). Andre and his team won the contest two falls to one in a near 10-minute contest.

Nearly four decades later, Sika’s son, Roman Reigns, will go up against his twin cousins- Jimmy and Jey Uso, by pairing with Solo Sikoa. It’ll be for the first time in the new millennium that family members will lock horns officially in the WWE.

Apart from that, it’ll also be an all-Anoa’i affair as Reigns embarks on a journey to assert his leadership as The Tribal Chief of The Bloodline.

Meanwhile, months before the historic eight-man tag match, Rocky Johnson was involved in another record, which also came at the expense of The Wild Samoans

Like father, like son

Dwayne Johnson might be one of the most recognized faces in all of pro wrestling and certainly the biggest name to have emerged from the Samoan wrestling family, but before him, it was Rocky Johnson who wooed the crowd.

Rocky Johnson, a WWE Hall of Famer, was a second-generation wrestler in the promotion. His stint, however, was very short- from 1982 to 1985. But within that time, he was able to become the first black man along with Tony Atlas to win the Tag Team Championship. The two African American wrestlers defeated Afa and Sika on November 15, 1983, to win the belt. The episode was aired on December 10.

Decades later, the WWE teased a match between their sons- Reigns and The Rock at WrestleMania 39. But it didn’t materialize as Johnson later pulled out.
