Cody Rhodes came back to the WWE last year, breaking a six-year hiatus. After leaving the Stamford-based promotion, Rhodes toured the independent circuit and later helped set up All Elite Wrestling, WWE’s present-day rival. Apart from wrestling, the American Nightmare donned the hat of an executive in AEW.

This allowed the former WWE Tag Team Champion to work with several talents in Tony Khan’s promotion. Rhodes gained invaluable experience that propelled him to a top star in the Stamford-based wrestling promotion. A 42-year-old employee, who observed Rhodes from close quarters, recently revealed the challenges of working with ‘The Prince Of Pro Wrestling’.

Talking about his time in AEW, Spears mentioned Cody Rhodes and the latter’s outlook towards sports entertainment. He said Rhodes strives to make everyone around him better but added that it is a double-edged sword.

“It’s also a challenge, because if you do not keep up with him, he will leave you behind, as a lesson, and rightfully so, and I believe that as well,” he said.

“Any show you’re on, bring your best, because I’m gonna bring my best and If you can’t keep up, that is not my fault. I will leave you behind because that we take professional wrestling very seriously,” Spears added.

Rhodes left AEW in 2022 and returned to his former employer at the 38th edition of ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’ in Texas. In a recent interview, he revealed the reason behind his AEW departure.

Since his return to WWE, Rhodes has enjoyed a major push and even featured in the main event of WrestleMania 39 as Roman Reigns’ challenger. While he failed to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and finish his story, Rhodes has emerged as the company’s top babyface.

Meanwhile, he has no such powers he enjoyed at the rival promotion. While one would consider it a downgrade, Dusty Rhodes’ younger son thought of it as a blessing.

Speaking to Rich Eisen while appearing on ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ last month, the American Nightmare said, “I think it distanced me a little bit from being just a wrestler.” The 37-year-old also revealed that he felt he was too young to run the promotion. All this played an important role in his decision to jump ship to WWE.
