The main event of WrestleMania is the pinnacle of a wrestler’s career. From Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant to Drew McIntyre vs Brock Lesnar, each WrestleMania main event has been special in its own way.

The most recent edition of WrestleMania was hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, but WWE still managed to put on an extremely entertaining show. Drew McIntyre kicking the Beast’s head off to win his first WWE Title was the perfect way to end the show.

With WrestleMania 37 looming on the horizon, fans are already coming up with hypothetical main events for the ‘Showcase of the Immortals’.

A WrestleMania 37 Dream Match

It has been seven years since we last saw The Rock in the main event of WrestleMania. He did make appearances at a couple of Manias after that, but he hasn’t wrestled a proper match since he lost to John Cena at Mania 29. The rumours of him making an in-ring return are thrown around every WrestleMania season. This year, the rumours have been stronger than ever.

The Rock is yet to formally retire from WWE and there is no better opponent to retire him than Roman Reigns. The influence Dwayne Johnson has had on Roman’s career is insurmountable. Their paths crossing would be a guaranteed WrestleMania main event. It is not too late to pull the trigger on the match, or else Dwayne’s Hollywood schedule would not allow it to happen.

The one-on-one match from Survivor Series we never got

Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey were part of the first and only WrestleMania main event to feature women (alongside Charlotte Flair). Recent reports suggest that Vince McMahon is planning to have the two mega-stars back for a one-on-one match at WrestleMania 37.

Becky is currently on maternity leave and is due in December. Rousey is on sabbatical from WWE to start a family with her husband.

While Becky’s return to the ring is obvious, Rousey has been dissing WWE left, right and center. She openly dissed the fans for disrespecting her and has expressed almost no desire to return to the ring.

However, a picture was posted by James Storm (former TNA Heavyweight Champion) on Twitter. The picture shows Rousey and her husband Travis Browne next to Storm in what looked like a post-training picture. If the rumours and reports are true, we could see a gigantic clash between two of WWE’s hottest female stars in the main event of WrestleMania 37.

Lesnar vs McIntyre II

Drew McIntyre‘s run as WWE Champion has been more than successful. The ‘Scottish Psychopath’ has put on stellar matches against the likes of Bobby Lashley, Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins. His rivalry with Randy Orton brought out the best in the ‘Viper’ as both men brutalised each other in the ring and outside of it.

If McIntyre does make it to WrestleMania with the title intact, there is a good chance he ends up in the main event spot. A surefire WrestleMania 37 main event would be Drew McIntyre facing the returning Brock Lesnar in a Mania 36 rematch. The pair’s last clash was a good, but disappointing one.

The absence of a live crowd to chant ‘Suplex City’ and do the countdown to McIntyre’s Claymore Kick diminished the match quality. With a live crowd at WrestleMania 37, whether its 70,000 or 500 screens with simulated noise, the sequel to Lesnar vs McIntyre II will surely be an intense one.

Big E-Mania

Roman Reigns has been killing it as Universal Champion. The ‘Big Dog’ put away both Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman to win the title, and is now involved in a deeply personal feud with his cousin brother Jey Uso.

The chances of Jey walking out of Hell in a Cell with the title is close to zero. WWE is still in the process of establishing Roman as a full-blown heel. They even aligned him with Paul Heyman to really stamp it home.

Reigns has begun what could be the best WWE Universal Title reign ever. Reigns absolutely needs to walk into WrestleMania as the champion, and the best person for him to face is Big E. After KofiMania at WrestleMania 35, it has been proven that the members of the New Day are more than capable of being singles wrestlers.

Big E is now cast as one of the top babyfaces on SmackDown. He came out on top in his rivalry with Sheamus, and is a favourite to win the 2021 Royal Rumble.

Furthermore, he is incredibly popular with the WWE Universe. A match between Roman and Big E with the title on the line could be monumental, especially if the latter walks out as champion.

A Golden WrestleMania Main Event

WWE pulled the trigger on the Bayley vs Sasha Banks storyline in early September. After losing the Women’s tag titles to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax at Payback, Bayley attacked Sasha on an episode of SmackDown.

Bayley brutalised Sasha with a steel chair, and the ‘Boss’ was out of action for weeks until Clash of Champions.

At the event, Banks smashed Bayley from behind with a chair shot, but Bayley just managed to escape before Sasha could inflict anymore damage. Their first title match on SmackDown ended in a disqualification, resulting in Sasha challenging Bayley to a Hell in a Cell match at the namesake PPV. The outcome of that match is unlikely but Bayley vs Sasha Banks has been penciled as a possible Mania main event.

The pair were the first women to main event an NXT Takeover. Sasha was part of the first Hell in a Cell match to feature women.

On the same day, Banks made history by being the first woman PPV main eventer, alongside Charlotte Flair. Bayley and Sasha are also the only Grand Slam Champions in the women’s division, alongside Alexa Bliss. With their name etched on so many records, a WrestleMania main event is one that is not too far off for them.
