At UFC 81: Breaking Point, he debuted against Frank Mir. Mir was the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Although Lesnar was quick to takedown Mir, a kneebar later, Lesnar tapped out. On The Joe Rogan Experience #2024 with Hulk Hogan, Rogan talked about Lesnar’s UFC career. Rogan began by praising Lesnar for transitioning from the WWE to UFC. He talked about coming in and going straight for the top of the food chain, Frank Mir. This is where he delved into Lesnar’s bout with diverticulitis.

So, he had to get a long section of his intestine removed,” Rogan said. Diverticulosis is when tiny, protruding sacks (diverticula) develop in the digestive tract. Lesnar suffered from this and had to have an inflamed section of his intestine removed. This was the medical condition he faced off-screen, which Rogan claims is why his UFC career did not last long.

Getting into more details, Rogan claimed that the late Anthony Bourdain once told him that Diverticulitis was a real mystery. Hogan claimed that Lesnar ate whatever he hunted. Hogan had exchanges with Lesnar post his return to the WWE.

Rogan shot this down, claiming that seeds could cause it. “People say you get it if you eat too much meat, which isn’t the case,” Rogan concluded.

The UFC fighter Alistair Overeem ended Lesnar’s career

According to Rogan, Lesnar’s career in the UFC ended so quickly because of Alistair Overeem. While talking about Lesnar’s diverticulitis, he went into details about Overeem, who Rogan claimed was on the ‘Juice.’ Overeem was a K-1 World Grand Prix Champion who went toe-to-toe with Lesnar after his diverticulitis surgery.

At UFC 141, Overeem made his UFC debut against Lesnar. Throughout the match, Overeem hit Lesnar with knee shots to the body. This aggravated Lesnar’s abdominal pains post-surgery. He also hit Lesnar with a kick to the liver, followed by punches to win the match. However, he would go on to fail his pre-fight drug test. This was by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), effectively losing a shot at champion Junior dos Santos.
