The 55-1-2 boxer signed a two-fight deal with Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn at the back end of 2020 after his release from Golden Boy. It appeared that the primary reason for this was to make the unification bout with Billy Joe Saunders possible.
Eddie Hearn also represents Saunders, and thus, it was easier to make the fight. As of now, Alvarez is on his second fight of a two-fight deal with Matchroom. Therefore, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing have promoted the highly anticipated bout with Billy Joe Saunders.
