Even though David Benavidez isn’t getting his dream shot at Canelo Alvarez, he isn’t going to miss the opportunity to scout Canelo’s fights. The legendary Mexican boxer will square off against Jaime Munguia on the Cinco de Mayo weekend at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. And ‘The Mexican Monster’ will be in attendance, as he promised in an interview.

Unable to convince Canelo Alvarez to fight, David Benavidez will look to defeat Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk at 175 pounds sometime in June. The undefeated Mexican sees the fight as a gateway to the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol and their undisputed status. However, before that happens, Benavidez is hoping this fighter wins in the Canelo-Munguia fight!

Speaking to Benavidez, a reporter asked for his predictions for the Canelo-Munguia fight. Disappointed with Canelo’s demand of $150–200 million, Benavidez declared he would be supporting “Munguia.” So, the reporter brought up his conversation with Oscar De La Hoya, who has his own beef with Canelo.

Not wanting to make their talks public, Benavidez said, “We don’t [have] to talk about that.” However, when the reporter suggested Oscar is a big supporter of Benavidez’s fight against Canelo, ‘The Mexican Monster’ tried to divert the conversation by saying, “Munguia and Canelo, it’s going to be a great fight.”

To this end, another reporter probed Benavidez about whether he would attend the fight. Benavidez claimed, “Yeah, I’m going [to] be there for sure.” While Benavidez will be cheering for Munguia to win, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions has also given his predictions for the fight.

Leonard Ellerbe is no stranger to Canelo’s skills, especially because of Canelo’s rivalry with Ellerbe’s business partner, Floyd Mayweather. So, when asked about his predictions for the upcoming fight, Ellerbe seems to have thought about it deeply. He told Fight Hype, “There’s no way he’s losing to Munguia, no way.”

He further added that the fight will be massive for Mexican culture, while praising Munguia. “You have a young fighter in Munguia who is coming to fight. He’s a good fighter. He’s definitely developed under Freddie Roach… He’s [Munguia] tailor-made for Canelo, in my opinion. This will probably be a highlight KO for Canelo” said Ellerbe.

With that said, it would be interesting to see if David Benavidez decides to enter the ring to call out Canelo after the fight concludes on May 4, like Leonard Ellerbe has predicted. If Benavidez does, will it cause a brawl? Will Canelo be forced to accept the fight?
