Ryan Garcia, a day prior to his fight with Javier Fortuna, dropped a bombshell when he announced he would move up to the 140lbs weight class following the end of his 23rd fight. As soon as Garcia made the announcement, it seemed he intended to avoid Tank, whom The Flash had now been calling out for some time. However, after the bout with Fortuna ended, Garcia made another revelation. He informed the fans that although he looked to move up to another weight, he would surely square off with Gervonta Davis, but in the 140lbs weight division itself.

In his recent interview with Fight Hype, Floyd Mayweather, who is “attached to” Gervonta Davis, addressed the issue. According to Mayweather, the bout could happen in 90 days, but the fight had to take place in the lightweight division up to 135lbs and not 140.

He said, “Ryan Garcia really wants this fight with Tank. So, if you really want to fight with Tank, sacrifice. We have to make sacrifices.”

Having made sacrifice mandatory, Mayweather alluded to his fight with De La Hoya.

In Mayweather’s opinion, Garcia is still young and need not immediately move up to the 140lbs weight class in boxing. If Garcia really wanted to fight Davis, they would have to take it out in the 135lbs weight class itself. In this connection, Mayweather, referring to his match-up with De La Hoya in 2007, said, “Even though I knew I wasn’t a 154 pounder, I knew that I wasn’t a junior middleweight. But I knew there are certain things. Sacrifice, I have to make.”

“Oscar De La Hoya chose gloves, chose the judges, he chose everything, the weight class, he chose everything. I knew I was a better fighter. I felt I was a better fighter, and I showed y’all I was a better fighter. So, guess what I did? I made sacrifices. So, if you feel like you can beat Tank, you’re the better fighter, then guess what? Make sacrifices. You just fought at 135. We’re fighting in 90 days if you want to,” he added.

In a comparison with Garcia, Davis has a significant 4 and 1/2 inches height disadvantage. Therefore, moving up to a weight class would mean height disadvantage, supplemented with the retardation of body movement and footwork.
