In a conversation with Fight Hub TV, Jaime Munguia disclosed how far things have progressed in signing a deal with Alvarez’s camp. When asked whether a potential fight was on the cards, the 42-0 record holder disclosed they were confident. Munguia said, “We had a couple of talks.”

“Nothing formal. No paperwork, no nothing. But hopefully, after this fight, we can see. We’ll be more than glad to do it,” he continued. When asked by the reporter whether he was going to fight Alvarez next, Munguia gave a short “yeah.”

Munguia has made some changes in his corner for the John Ryder fight. He has ended his four-year run with Erik Morales and now shifted the base to Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach‘s Wild Card Boxing gym in Los Angeles. While the Tijuana native might be eager to stamp his credentials as a perfect challenger to Alvarez, the division’s undisputed champion is not short of suitors.

Alvarez’s problem of plenty

The super middleweight champion had already signed a contract to face Jermall Charlo, but that fight has yet to see the light of day. Then he has the wildcard options of Terence Crawford, who recently hit the gym, and a rematch with Dmitry Bivol. However, there is one man he can’t afford to ignore anymore.

David Benavidez continues to stack his resume and dismantle his opponents in the ring as he demands Alvarez’s attention.’The Mexican Monster’ is a ferocious knockout machine and has now defended his interim WBC title against Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade. He appears to be next in line for Alvarez’s Cinco de Mayo bout. However, if Munguia KOs Ryder, he might edge Benavidez and sign the contract with Alvarez.
